There's a powerful visual confirmation of progress when you see someone smile for the first time
Heather’s desire to help people within her community has led her to a career supporting mental health services, specializing in medical billing and coding. She recognizes that navigating the complexities of insurance can be a significant source of stress, especially for those already facing mental health challenges. Her role is to alleviate that burden by making the insurance process more understandable and manageable. She believes that those reaching out for help shouldn't have to face additional stress related to administrative tasks.
What Heather values most about working in mental health is witnessing people at some of their most vulnerable moments and then seeing them reclaim their lives. There's a powerful visual confirmation of progress when you see someone smile for the first time, or when they start joking and engaging with you as they come in for their appointments. Seeing people overcome their struggles is deeply gratifying.
Outside of work, Heather has a busy life with her husband, five children, and their Bassett Hound. She enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, including her kids' sports, camping trips, and spending time at creeks and lakes during the summer. Her husband's involvement as a local musician also keeps her actively engaged in the community.
